STANDARD 5.0: Students will plan and develop Web site structure and design.
5.1  Diagram each phase of the Web development process.
5.2  Create a Web design team.

1a. apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes.
2a. interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media.
2d. contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems.
6a. understand and use technology systems.

1a. promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness.
1c. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.
1d. model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments.
2a. design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.
3b. collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation.

TN State Computer Technology Learning Accomplishments: http://www.state.tn.us/education/ci/computer/index.shtml
1.1. Students demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature and operation of
technology systems.
1.2. Students are proficient in the use of technology.
3.1 Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and
promote creativity.
3.2 Students use productivity tools to collaborate in constructing technology enhanced
models, prepare publications, and produce other creative works.

Essential Question: What are the major phases in the Web development process?

Concept Map Integration Plan: The students will create a concept map with Mind Meister (www.mindmeister.com).  This concept map will be completed by the Web design team and printed or kept on file to review the break down of their web page components.  The concept map will also be given to the teacher for assessment.

Brief description of the Instruction Plan: Students will be asked to think about some of their favorite web sites, and come up with a list of the steps they think would be necessary to design a functional web site.  Then we’ll discuss the phases in the Web development process, and assign groups to conceptualize a web site.  The students will use Mind Meister, or another computer software program, to put together a concept map for these phases based on the discussion.  Then the students will turn in their concept maps for assessment.

Additional Technology Integration to be Used: This lesson plan will utilize Mind Meister as a Web 2.0 tool primarily, but the students may use Powerpoint or another method, if they prefer, to generate their concept map.

Description of the ‘relative advantage’ of all technology being used in this lesson: In the case of my content area, technology use would be a required part of the lesson.  The ‘relative advantage’ of using technology in this case would just be repetition and reinforcement of knowledge the students should be familiar with.  However, using technology to conceptualize the phases of Web development would be a great way for the students to learn organization, collaboration, and information retrieval on the computer.
